The Fair Folk are calling me...

OK...

Much as I'm intrigued by the idea of running DA: Fae, I'm coming to the conclusion that I have nothing but the vaguest ideas for it. And one Romeo & Juliet-type forbidden romance isn't enough to base a game around. Poop.

The missing of rowan_academy by a couple of folks, though, has me kicking around ideas for a university-based CtD game. The "school" setting seems to be a good one, pretty universal, and self-contained enough that the PCs would have reason to interact (nothing against larger games, but I've found they make it bloody hard to set up sceneage 'cause the characters are comparatively all over the map).

I'd like to keep the action of the game mostly player-driven, as Rowan was - it seems a hell of a lot easier to let people play out their own stories than try to fit them into mine.

I'm also contemplating instituting an honor system for dice rolling, so scenes don't grind to a halt until I can roll for someone; I'm figuring that I can have the players make rolls at http://irony.com/ and then post the results in their comments. Yeah, I know there might be no real way to enforce player honesty that way, but that'd be the price we paid for player independence on die rolls, I guess.

So...anyone interested? Any suggestions?

You can count me in! Would we essentially be taking our Rowan characters and putting them through university? Or would you want all new characters?

My preference is for new characters, though I *might* be willing to take Rowan characters made as beginning (i.e., no XP) ones.

Of course, this would be a game with new NPCs (I'm not sure I could get back into the Rowan NPCs' skins at this point - it's been a while. :).

Well... I guess I could do another game... ;)

I like the university idea. Where do you want the setting to be?

Another make-believe town in PA. This one'd be a bit bigger than the one from rowan_academy, though.

I hear and obey, oh mistress of gaming!

And a university/college setting would allow for more mortal interaction, too, like ctd_epiphany. That's the only thing detering me from epiphany, I think... the sheer geographical scale of it.

Hmmm... would Rowan characters be allowed at least a cameo appearance once in a great while?

Cameos are fine by me. If they're submitted as PCs, though, I'd like them submitted as beginning (i.e., no XP) characters.

I think maybe the RARE cameo, at least for Hob. I never really did get a chance to play with Vincent, though. Spindle is somewhat dependant on someone else (cough, cough). Wouldn't feel the same otherwise. Then again, the idea of a new character has a kind of shiny, new present feeling to it, something I haven't played before that no one would expect...

Arrggghh! Damn the decisions!

Although, just as a thought... you might want to either advise players (or even make it a rule) not to exchange RL info or even regular LJ persona info. Keeping everything on a strictly character to character basis might 1) increase the sense of mystery and 2) help cut down on the "this person's after me" type bs.

Just two cents from a Buffalo nickel.

A good idea, I think...I'm unsure of how to word it, though. The best I've got is an addition to the "A player's personal info is hirs..." rule that says, pretty much, that people should be *very* careful about revealing RL info to others. I'm having trouble coming up with more than that that doesn't sound alarmist or condescending (for lack of a better term) to me, though.

I think you're doing pretty good here!

"The Management humbling requests that you do not exchange RL or even LJ identities with your fellow players; interactions should remain character to character only (when possible) in order to help present a sense of mystery and a measure of security. In short, you shouldn't know who is playing the other characters."

One trick I use for games is to set up a common item, and then let the players do as they will for background.

That is...

Your fae can be whoever they want, as long as they are a member of *social club X*

I used it to make a family... that is, here's the father, figure out how you fit in.

I've had good luck with "you all go to the same school," or, "you all live in the same town."
