Narnia r0xxors my s0xxors

lostsatyr and I saw The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe yesterday.

Very, very, good. One of the best films I've seen this year.

I was quite pleased that the scene with Father Christmas was left in in this adaptation. When the children and the beavers were running away from the sled and I caught a glimpse of brown reindeer, I thought, "Are they going to do that scene?" and was happy to be rewarded. After all, one of the points of the story is that it's "Always winter, and never Christmas!"

Edmund comes across as more sympathetic and less of a brat during the first half of the story, which I liked. I always thought his conversion seemed a little forced in the earlier adaptations I've seen. And in this film, the other three don't come off quite as saintly.

The WETA folks did a wonderful job on the visuals; I had a hard time figuring out what was real and what was digital. And the battle scenes were just...WHOA. I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

And there was a unicorn in the film! *squees*

lostsatyr and I were both pleased they kept the original ending - Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy grow up in Narnia, then return to our world at almost the exact moment they left.

A final piece of advice - stay for the closing credits. You won't be sorry. :)
