UBCon XVIII Report

I had a ball! I got to game with ramius_rathorne, justric and akadriver; got some cool stuff; met the awesome jesshartley; and got a sneak peek at Changeling: The Lost.

Friday evening's Dark Ages: Werewolf was so much fun! Major kudos go to justric for his portrayal of the Fianna Galliard balladeer - he had me in stitches all evening! Way to go, justric - you deserved to be named best RPer in the game!

On Saturday afternoon, I got to be on panels with the Con Director and jesshartley! *squees* The Women in Gaming panel was terrific - we got a very good discussion going, and both the panelists and the audience got to share some terrific stories (and the group loved Robin Laws' story about the little girl who played a paladin at GenCon - I heard it at ICon 26).

The "Mature Roleplaying" panel was very, very good. Everyone was very knowledgeable and I think we brought up a number of very good points. I also learned some things (see, even a panelist can learn some things from the audience).

I also got to play Numbers League, a very entertaining card game, for the first time. The artist was nice enough to demo it for me in the Dealer's Room - I was so impressed I picked up a copy for myself, plus another one to show to the folks at work (maybe they can use it with the Math groups....).

The Changeling: The Lost reading has me waiting with bated breath for the game to come out in August. And from what jesshartley said in her Q & A, there'll be a lot more room for customizing characters than there was in CtD. Woo-hoo! *is salivating at the thought of creating a Japanese-flavored changeling* I also got a copy of Strange Alchemies for Promethean: The Created signed by the inimitable jesshartley, who is one of the nicest people I have ever met - she even spent the better part of half an hour or more talking to me about Promethean in the Dealer's Room on Sunday! Major coolness!

I had a wonderful time helping lostsatyr run Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Saturday evening - we had Drama Points being spent like it was going out of style, and the players got the Buffy-style quips flying, as well. I think akadriver was having a lot of fun playing the former runaway Slayer.

Chez Geek on Sunday morning was a heck of a lot of fun - the group got into the spirit of things and had a lot of fun undercutting each other's attempts to get Slack.

I came home with a set of wine glasses printed with dragons; two copies of Numbers League (one of them signed by the artist); soem very cool dice with celtic and elven script on them; the aforementioned copy of Strange Alchemies; two UBCon posters and a Promethean poster autographed by jesshartley; and a gaming-themed scented candle ("Succubus"). I also got a UBCon XVIII T-shirt for free for having been a GM.

Oh! I also won the UBCon XVIII Short Story Contest with my superhero story, "From Out of the Darkness!" (you can read it here if you like)

All in all, a very fun con! I'm kind of sorry it's over now. Oh, well, I have next year to look forward to!

I'm glad you had a great time, and thanks for the news about Changeling. I've got my fingers crossed too.

Putting my game books onto my LibraryThing account has got me all nostalgic about gaming again, I haven't done any serious dice rolling in around three years!

It was fantastic to meet you and finally put a face to your name! I really enjoyed your participation in the Women in Gaming and WooHoo panels and I loved chatting with you about Promethean! :)

Keep in touch, will you? :)

It was nice meeting you at UBCon and I appreciate you taking time to sign everything thegamemistress brought you. She gets thrilled with having things autographed :) (I'm Chris, the other half.)

I'm glad you did the reading on the new Changeling book and had the Q&A session afterwards. The reading was a nice background for the game and the answers you gave, along with what has allready been said, have me looking forward to the game. I'm very glad it's going to be flexible.

Will do.

And the chat (and reading Strange Alchemies) has me longing to find a Promethean game to play in now. :)

I'm thinking about starting up a play-by-post Promethean game. Not quite sure how to do it yet though.

Once again, it was a pleasure to see and RP with you and Chris. I also enjoyed the panels you were on. I can't wait to see what you have in store for next year.

Congrats on the winning the Short Story contest!

UBCon was great fun for me as well- moderating panels is so interesting.

And I can tell you that the dragon glasses were from SimCon in Rochester- that dragon icon has been their symbol for years.
