Just what Buffalo needs...

...more Vampire LARPs! :P

Heard yesterday at Open Gaming that there are three more LARPs in the works - all of them Vampire ones. *sigh*

I give D. props for deciding to run a MAGE LARP (that also doesn't use the utterly broken Laws of Ascension system). As lostsatyr said, one of the things in that LARP's favor (besides it being run by one of our friends), is that it is not a Vampire LARP.

UB SARPA is f*cking innundated with VtM LARPs. Why the frell can't someone come up with something else? What's the allure of skulking around Baldy Hall with your arms crossed over your chest all the time? It's kind of like lostsatyr was saying last night - "Jeez, can't people have a little more imagination (than to start yet another VtM LARP)?"

I did. It died due to lack of interest.

Bitter? Just a tad.

It's sad that people are more interested in playing bloodsucking parasites than creatures who are the embodiment of dreams and live to inspire creativity. But apparently Anne Rice still has a hold on the collective psyche or something, because we have more VtM LARPs than you can shake a stake at, but the games that defy the formula of "the world is going to hell, there's nothing we can do about, woe is us for we are bloodsucking creatures of the night, bladdidy blah blah," lose out to the formulaic "lookie, I'm a dark, GAWTHtastic creature of the night; aren't I just so KEWL?" schtick. :P

*wishes someone in the SARPA Officer Corps would put a moratorium on any more VtM LARPs*

I heard that when it got moved from Sunday to Saturday, a significant number of the players couldn't make it. Or are you refering to when you were still running it?
Jul. 10th, 2005 07:51 pm (UTC)
I think the move from Sun to Sat was the felling blow. That decision could have been better planned, perhaps. Then again, I was not there, so I do not know the whole story behind it.

In regards to storylines and gameplay, I had/have full confidence in the ST staff that was in charge when I had to leave.

But even when the game was at its height, there was only a small group of dedicated gamers, no more than 15-20, and that included the ST staff. Compare that to the size of the vampire larps.

I will also admit it's fully possible that the STs of Buffalo By Night simply run a superior game, which inspires imitators.

It seems like CtD has always been the "redheaded stepchild" of the WW family of games. It was essentially ignored to death until they threw us a bone in Time of Judgement.

Maybe. But having been around when Buffalo By Night first started up, I think it's more that the game has just been around forever. Then again, I have numerous issues with that LARP (which don't need to be gone into in a public post), so I'm probably biased.

They may want to re-think starting new LARPs with the new policy by White Wolf... if you don't know what I mean:

Jul. 10th, 2005 07:53 pm (UTC)
That's already been covered. The policy only applies to those organizations that require players to pay a mandatory fee or a minimum donation. None of the current UB games require such, either for the games or for membership in SARPA itself.

Wait a sec...
WW wants to charge player groups just to run games?
Oh, if they make money off it.

They'd probably love this world:

GURPS time.

Well, you know what must be done then?

One night, you show up (unannounced) in a cat ears, and start lying your ass off! And if anyone starts to give you trouble, just stand beside Lostsatyr, who is wearing a red baseball cap, and is looking at everyone as if they are lunch.

Hmmm... I wonder how a pack of vampires would react... "I try to bite the kitty's neck." "Well, I protect my friend by trying to bite the vampire's neck... off."

I can be soooo evil sometimes.

Of course, even worse would be enchanting said hungry vampire, and introducing it to the Duke's pet dragon, that you have on loan for the evening.

Oh, if only they'd let us get away with it....

Well, did you see my post on my pooka diplomat on the changelingthedreaming yahoo group? A creatively put invitation delivered to the ST/Prince with a good story and they might just let you go!

Of course, one of my friends has another idea for how to handle larps: go in with a bunch of bean-bags, throw them at everyone and everything, and say "Did I win?"

Hee, hee...
Just what we need, more LARPs sucking people out of the table top games.
The use of the word "sucking" in reference to VtM LARPs made me smile.
