Note to self

Talk to R. and tell him, "I assume you'd be uncomfortable if lostsatyr's gay NPC in my game reached into his tighty whiteys to hand your PC a business card. Well, that's how I felt about your female NPC reaching into her bra to offer one to my PC in your game. Please don't do anything like that again. Thanks."

Le ick.

Yes, I'm playing a lesbian Black Fury. But, no, that doesn't mean she's gonna indiscriminately boink anything female, especially not his unattractive, armed-to-the-teeth Corax bounty hunter. :p

Brilling Dr. Who icon you haver there.

First off... as a lesbian, I've NEVER found it "sexy" for a woman to carry anything in her bra -- think of how much you sweat in there! Ugh!

Second... is that a Sonja Blue avatar icon?

Indeed it is. :) I've been a fan of Nancy Collins' vampire/vampire hunter since I read In the Blood back around the time I was in college.

I *think* the pic's from a comic based on Collins' novels, but I'm not entirely sure....

Once again, some people should not play the oposite sex, and they most difinatly should not play someone of a different sexual orientation than their own.
Oct. 28th, 2005 01:09 pm (UTC)
untrue on both counts.

As a guy, I've got to second the never finding it "sexy" for a woman to carry anything in her bra - for the exact same reason as delayra.

Does this person actually think this would work?

Oct. 28th, 2005 12:24 pm (UTC)
Apparently, yes. *shakes head* I don't understand it either.

Okay, kids. Todays word is: Perspective. Lets say it together.

Perspec... er.. perstect.. um.. perspect.. I don't think I can do it. ;-)

Love the Ash icon, btw.

Hon, why not respond in character, exactly as you would out of character. If he keeps getting a negative in-game response, he'll cut it out. :)
Oct. 28th, 2005 11:28 am (UTC)
I don't know if this guy is perceptive enough to get that - he's playing a sidhe with the Merit "Sex Appeal" in my game, and doesn't understand why so many male NPCs who are interested in guys are hitting on him. ;)

Or I'd have to have my PC kill the NPCs to get him to notice; yes, he *can* be that obtuse. :)

I know it shouldn't have bothered me, but at the time I wrote this, it did. After some thought, though, not so much.

It could have been the frelling hormones; the Red House Painters are due to visit soon. ;)

Maybe we should offer some 'how-to' advice.

We write out a typical bad example of cross-gender rp, then write out how various real examples of the maligned group have behaved?
Oct. 29th, 2005 01:59 pm (UTC)
I do like this idea. It could be sort of like this article. It might have broader appeal if we included tips on how to play guys for some women (oh, lostsatyr, would you care to contribute on this one?), as well.

I've been batting around the idea to do a "How to Play a Character That's a Different (Gender/Race/Whatever) From You" panel for a con for a couple of years now.... If lostsatyr and I can make it to I-Con or you can make it to TT in '06, perhaps we should get together and actually do it.

I don't know.... Maybe if the PC had no pockets, she might keep something in her bra. In very tight situations, I have kept a $10 or $20 bill in my own bra. It's not comfortable in the least, and I feel like a dork reaching into my shirt to get the money, but sometimes you have to do what's necessary. At least the bra is slightly easier than a sock, which is what I used to do as a kid. :D

And then, some characters are just weirdos. Izzy, for example, would have kept a business card, or money (if he had it), in his underwear. Of course, knowing Izzy, he would either not have the money at all (or Monopoly money - "What are you talking about? My money is good everywhere! Garcon!"), or he would not have underwear at all.

Geoff: "Izzy, why does that $1 bill keep falling out of your pant leg?"

Izzy: [falls to his knees] "The sidewalk gods bless their favored son!" ... [stands, returns bill to pants, notices bill on ground again] "And again!"

[he can keep this up longer than you think....]

Nah, she's got pockets. The GM made a point to describe how there were interesting bulges in them. :)
