Octocon (UBSaRPA Mini-Con)

...was yesterday.

It was one of the better Mini-Cons I've attended. The officers this year seem to have their stuff together; things were organized ("Okay, we have these games running in these rooms! If you want to play, talk to these people!"). I even got to run/play Chez Goth - twice! :)

And lostsatyr and I got to see Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Not that much of a plot, but lots of pretty people to look at. Much hotter-looking than they are in the game. :)

The only flaw was the other club practicing their dancing in the same area where we were viewing anime; I'm normally a sub fan anyway, but the loudness of the dancers' music pretty much necessitated viewing the subtitled versions. Though the "additional soundtrack" did make watching some scenes pretty weird. :)

Saw rosenightblade at Minicon, and may possibly have tempted her into joining my upcoming WtA game. If she actually can play come January, this is a good thing.

During the scene near the end of the film where everyone in the group helps Cloud make it to the top to fight Kadaj, I turned to lostsatyr and told him, "That's teamwork!" The sort of teamwork I keep trying to strive for when I run and play RPGs, but that a good number of other players just don't seem to get. Oh, well. I'll just have to keep trying. :)

I bought Advent Children when it came out on DVD -- that night, my cousin lifted it along with a half-dozen other DVDs of mine to "borrow" until she could get cable. Now, months later, I've gotten the other six back, but she can't seem to find FF7AC... so I've still not seen it :(

That last fight is really just fan service, but I did enjoy seeing Red XIII and Cait Sith. And Cid! I had forgotten about Cid.

I actually contemplated buying this when I was in Japan, but I knew that it would only be viewable on our region-free DVD player, and not even my laptop. Besides, it was like $35 after the conversion, and even I'M not that much of a Final Fantasy geek.

Of course, we are going to buy FFXII on Tuesday. Can't wait to play Balthier. And I've missed the judges from Tactics. I may even have to take a break from LEGO Star Wars II, which I am enjoying the heck out of, to play FFXII.

that's why you have friends who run the hub on your local college campus. *whistles* ..not that I know of anyone like that.
