UBCon XIX con report

UBCon XIX was last weekend (April 11-13).

I had a fabulous time - I got to see people I haven't seen in a while, played and ran some cool games, saw the awesome jesshartley, and picked up some cool stuff in the dealer's room.

On Friday, I ran Dark Ages: Werewolf. It was a heck of a lot of fun, especially since ramius_rathorne, justric, im_a_woman, and numerica314 played. The adventure centered around the characters' packs escorting a Kin noblewoman to her wedding. On the way, though, they were attacked by the bad guys, who turned their charge into a fomor (essentially, a monster). In order to cure her, they had to make a deal with the ever-capricious fae. Luckily, everything worked out and the characters were able to complete their mission.

I had a good time catching up with justric after the game. He even brought me ginger beer - yee!

On Saturday, lostsatyr and I slept in a bit, then cruised the dealer's room for a bit, where we met up with tarbis, then joined him and im_a_woman at Friendly's for lunch. It was fun, even if we got the slow waitress and had to hurry back to UB in order to catch our afternoon events.

Speaking of Saturday afternoon events...I had the honor and privilege to play in justric's Changeling: The Lost game. Wow. Just...wow. The effort he put into the story, and the things he can do with his voice - it was absolutely amazing. That was really something to aspire to as a GM. justric, the game was incredible! I enjoyed myself immensely, especially since he presented me with a character that was great fun to play - I liked the Darklings when I first got CtL, and the Spring Court Palewraith that I got was so much fun! I really enjoyed being the "Invisible Girl" as one of the other PCs ended up dubbing her. And the little "goodie bags" that we all got just added to the fun - I now have a Lost die of my very own, along with an old-fashioned key, a little plastic faerie, a pretty disk with a compass and a fern design on it, and a lovely little bag to hold all of them in. Very cool.

Then it was off to jesshartley's Hunter: The Vigil reading (a UBCon exclusive!). It was very interesting, especially since it seems that there'll be ways to incorporate Vigil characters into other WoD games as more than just antagonists (as was the case in oWoD with HtR). I'm also pleased that there seems to be ways to incorporate more than just the "heavy firepower" method - one could do an X-Files-esque game, or something in the vein of the old "Hunters Hunted" for Vampire: The Masquerade, which fills me with glee. lostsatyr seems quite intrigued by HtV as well - I think we'll have to make sure to get him a copy of the Quickstart rules come Free RPG Day. :)

After the HtV reading and Q and A, jesshartley did a panel called "So You Want to Work for White Wolf," which was about being a freelancer in the gaming industry. It was very informative, especially since it was performed as a round-table discussion. I even got to talk to Jess about Scion a wee bit in between her panels!

After the panel, it was off to run Buffy the Vampire Slayer for me and lostsatyr, while ramius_rathorne got to play in justric's second CtL game with jesshartley herself! (I'm envious!)

The Buffy game went off well, even if there was a good deal of deviation from what I'd originally planned out. Luckily, lostsatyr was able to roll with it, and our players had a good time, so it went well. I was sort of zoning out due to having been up until past midnight on Thursday and Friday (talking with ramius_rathorne) and having attended I-Con 27 the previous weekend, so I'm afraid I don't remember too much of what went on during the Buffy adventure. *blushes*

Sunday morning, I ran Chez Geek. I think I had something like eight or nine players - a first! It was fun...until one of the players threw a hissy fit when he got a run of bad cards, and then proceeded to throw the cards on the floor. *sighs* Some people...!

After Chez Geek, lostsatyr and I went to the Dealer's Room, where we saw jesshartley! I had a lot of fun talking to her about Lost and Scion - she was very nice to us and even told us about one of her own Lost characters - wow! Then justric and the_gargoyle stopped by with their family, and we all got to talk. justric and the_gargoyle's three young ladies were adorable, by the way! E looked so cute carrying the_gargoyle's Bag That Bites!

lostsatyr and I hung around with ramius_rathorne, tarbis, eseme and im_a_woman until it was time for the UBCon charity auction; the tickets were drawn by none other than jesshartley - yep, the Guest of Honor herself! She was nice enough to stick around and sign books afterward, so I got my copies of Lost, Autumn Nightmares, and Scion: Demigod signed! Whee!

lostsatyr and I hung about to watch ramius_rathorne's Ca$h 'n' Gun$ event for a while and talked with im_a_woman and eseme for a while, until we decided to head home before we met up with ramius_rathorne again for dinner.

And I has swag! I picked up Antagonists for the nWoD (autographed by one of the artists, yet!), a copy of Heart Quest (shoujo anime using the FUDGE rules), the new expansion for Numbers League (thanks to lostsatyr), and a wonderfully cute Ice Yeti Bag That Bites. I also won a UBCon XIX T-shirt in justric's game, and got a lovely necklace, earrings and bracelet made by J, a friend of ours, in the UBCon Charity auction.

All in all, a great con! I'm already looking forward to next year!

Aw, thank you. :) And thanks so much for the personalized message in the Lost book - when I saw it, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

The Buffy game was great fun, though I could tell that we ran wildly in a direction labeled "Not In The Plan." The Panther-person who insisted I play tends to do that with his ideas. It still worked out every well, with minimal combat and a much petter way of meeting up with the princess. And lostsatyr did roll with our ideas very well.

And it's understandable- late nights will do that to anyone.

The con was definitely well worth the drive.

Thank you very much for being such a wonderful hostess and putting up with my endless rambling and ranting.

And allowing me to beat stuff up with dice.
