I survived the fire of Otakon 17!

Yes, there really was a fire - they had to clear out the convention center and everything. Afterwards, I saw some of the artists making, "I survived the Otakon 17 fire" drawings. :)

Otherwise, I had a wonderful time - I got autographs from Yuji Mitsuya (insert Saint Seiya fangirl squeeing here) and Maile Flanagan (the English VA of Naruto), went to a number of cool panels (the one on the shinigami rocked), got some great pictures of cosplayers, and picked up a lot of neat stuff from the dealers' room and Artists' Alley.

We also saw the Yoshida Brothers in concert Friday - that was amazing! Those are two very talented gentlemen. lostsatyr is thinking of picking up some of their CDs when we get back.

So...I got a pillow, a sweatshirt, some pins, and a patch from Neko-jin Designs; a bunch of DVDs (Beast King Golion, Kujibiki Unbalance [mostly for the Genshiken OVAs], and a bunch of assorted anime DVDs); an assortment of pins; a CD from a J-Pop group called Unicorn Table (they were playing it while I was in the dealers' room and I liked it); a bunch of geeky and anime T-shirts; a cosplay wig (because someday I *will* cosplay Sailor Neptune, dammit, and I've been looking for a good wig for years); and commission drawings of two of my RPG characters - my character from tarbis's pulp adventures game (it's her! It's *so* her!) and my Scion character (which I'm not as pleased with - it just doesn't look right to me...maybe I should have told her to make her smiling instead of glaring....).

Notes to self - if you decide to get commissioned art again, BRING MORE MONEY. Also, the deli at the Light Street Food Pavilion is a good place to eat. Finally, make sure you have comfortable shoes that you can walk a lot in - especially if you decide to go to Light Street Food Pavilion from the BCC. Oh, and having snacks actually *on* you (as opposed to in the car or at the hotel) is a very good idea. :)

It was a very fun con - I'm kind of disappointed it's over. Oh well - there's always next year!
